Basic Care
Mist Regularly:
Your grow kit is easy to care for! Simply mist the block with water once or twice a day to maintain the right humidity levels. Keep the block in a well-lit area but out of direct sunlight to encourage healthy mushroom growth. Proper misting is key to promoting fruiting, so be sure the surface remains moist but not soaking wet.Create a Fruit-Friendly Environment:
Place your grow kit in a location that maintains a temperature of 60–75°F (15–24°C) and is out of drafts. The mushrooms will begin to grow within a few days to a week, depending on the variety and environmental conditions. Chestnuts may take several weeks to pin.
Advanced Care (For Optimal Results)
Use a Martha Grow Tent with Humidifier:
For the best results, you may want to consider using a Martha Grow Tent or similar setup. These controlled environments allow you to maintain a consistent temperature and humidity, ensuring your mushrooms get the ideal conditions to flourish. Adding a humidifier to the tent will help keep the moisture levels consistent for maximum fruiting potential.Monitor Temperature and Humidity:
A temperature range of 60–75°F (15–24°C) and humidity between 85–95% is ideal for most mushroom varieties. Regularly check the humidity levels, especially during dry seasons, to ensure your mushrooms grow strong and healthy.
Disposal and Reuse of Your Grow Kit
Once your kit has gone through multiple flushes (mushroom harvests), it’s time to dispose of the block. But don’t throw it away just yet! The mycelium (the mushroom root system) is still very much alive and can continue producing mushrooms in the right conditions. Here are some eco-friendly ways to dispose of your block:
Bury It in the Dirt:
Simply bury the block in your garden soil or a compost pile. The mycelium will continue to grow and produce mushrooms in the coming months, enriching your soil in the process.Place It on a Dead Tree Stump:
Burying the block on a dead tree stump is a great way to help the mycelium thrive. It will continue to break down the wood, producing additional mushrooms while contributing to the of the tree stump.Add It to Your Firewood Pile:
If you have a firewood pile, you can add the spent grow block on top. The mycelium will continue to break down the wood, and in the future, you may find new mushrooms popping up as the mycelium expands.
With these simple tips, you can enjoy your Marley's Mushrooms grow kit to its fullest potential and even continue to harvest mushrooms long after your initial batch. Enjoy the process of growing your own food, and remember—fresh, homegrown mushrooms are just a mist away!
